Country: Kazakhstan
Program: Education
Job Title: Secondary School Teacher Trainer
Dates of Service: March 9 - May 25, 2013
Pre-Service Training (in Kazakhstan): March 11 - May 25th, 2011
Assignment Description: Volunteers in the university and teacher trainer group are mainly assigned to "college" English classes, that cover the equivalent grades of 12 and 13, or to university foreign language departments, translation, or interpretation programs and pedagogical teacher training institutes. Many of these assignments are in larger cities throughout the country.
Details about my Peace Corps Service: I will depart for "staging" on March 9, 2011. Staging takes place in a major city in the U.S. like Philly, or D.C. Staging generally last 1-3 days and will be a brief overview of rules and expectations. This will also be the first time I will meet my fellow Kazakhstan Peace Corps Trainees. After staging, I will head directly to Kazakhstan. In Kazakhstan I will begin Peace Corps Training around the city of Almaty. I will spend three months learning the language, going over safety and health, and gaining technical experience. During training I will live with a host family to get more comfortable with the language and culture. At some point during training I will find out my site within Kazakhstan where I will work for the next two years. I will post more details about my particular assignment at this point. At the end of training I will be sworn in as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I will then move to my permanent site and live with another host family for the first few months.
